Corona, New York, January 20, 2011, Addie Crawford, Registered Nurse, has been recognized by Elite American Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in public health care.
An expert in every aspect of nursing, Ms. Crawford has been enamored by the profession since she was seven years old. Upon graduating high school, she pursued and completed a diploma in nursing from Meharry Medical College, and a Bachelor of Science in the same discipline from Adelphi University. By employing her innate compassion for helping others, she spent 65 years of her profession working in public health as a traveling and visiting nurse. Her longevity in the field and true love for her profession have set her apart from her colleagues and made for a career adorned with achievements.
Through her experiences working for the Visiting Nurse Service, and the New York City Department of Health, Ms. Crawford learned to provide high quality care for her patients and develop personal relationships throughout their treatment. She considers her career highlight to be working as a district supervising public health nurse. Though she retired from the public health industry in 1988, Ms. Crawford continues to provide care to the elderly by taking blood pressure at a local hypertension clinic once per week.
Dedicated to helping others in any way that she can, Ms. Crawford lends her support to charitable organizations including the Corona Congregational Church, Inc. the United Church of Christ, and the Florence E. Smith Community Center. Likewise, she sits on the board of the Malcolm X Day Care Center, and is recognized as a founding member of chapter 4977 of AARP. In addition, Ms. Crawford is affiliated with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the National Council of Negro Women.
