Magnolia, Texas, December 15, 2010, Chester Crump, Charge Nurse for The Methodist Hospital System, has been recognized by Elite American Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in intensive care nursing.

For three decades, Mr. Crump has employed his never-give-up attitude and compassion for helping others in the health care field. As a charge nurse in the intensive care unit, he is responsible for supervising patients and ensuring they receive proper medication by checking their vitals. Moreover, he addresses all of their concerns to assuage their discomfort and move forward with treatment. Mr. Crump cites the most rewarding aspect of his career to be witnessing the zest and joy that comes from each patient when they walk out of the facility after transitioning from a near-death state back to their healthy, functioning self.

Mr. Crump is also accountable for all of the nurses in his department. His demonstrated willingness to learn has made for a dynamic environment within the ICU, where he upholds the opinion that there is no one-right way to operate. A certified BCLS and ACLS instructor, Mr. Crump schedules and supervises each nurse, and serves as a mentor. His desire to help others does not just apply to those patients he is treating, but to his colleagues as well. Together, they work toward perfection.

A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Crump has been honored with an Aviation Badge and a Combat Medical Badge for his courage and outstanding services as a medic under direct enemy fire. Upon retiring from the military and receiving multiple other service awards, Mr. Crump began participating in veterans’ affairs to showcase his appreciation for his country. An affiliate of the Disabled American Veterans, Mr. Crump plays a significant role for the Vietnam Dustoff Association, a non-profit organization devoted to maintaining the camaraderie and history of the helicopter aero-medical evacuation units in Vietnam.
