Peoria, Illinois, January 19, 2011, Deborah L. Erickson, Ph.D., RN, Assistant Professor of Nursing at Bradley University, has been recognized by Elite American Nurses for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in nursing education.

With three decades of professional experience, Dr. Erickson has spent the last 10 years showcasing her expertise in nursing instruction. As an assistant professor of nursing, she excels in translating her comprehensive field experience into coursework that her students can apply to their own blossoming careers. Through her personal experience with diabetes, Dr. Erickson hones her passion for helping others; likewise, she encourages her students to draw on their own experiences to motivate their best performance at all times. At the end of each semester, Dr. Erickson knows she has prepared each student to successfully work in hospitals and other health facilities.

Dr. Erickson earned a Ph.D. in nursing from Rush University in 2008, after having already received a Master of Science in the same discipline from Vanderbilt University, and a Bachelor of Science in the same discipline from the University of Michigan. A demonstrated scholar, Dr. Erickson attributes her success to the strong predicate her education has provided, and to the constant support she receives from her parents. When teaching, she hopes to infuse the same inspiration to the nurses that will one day succeed her.

Recognized as president-elect for the Illinois chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, Dr. Erickson maintains affiliation with numerous industry-related organizations to keep abreast of industry changes. She is a member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, and the American Diabetes Association. In her spare time, she volunteers for the H1N1 Shot Clinic in her community. Likewise, she conducts research on diabetes with the intent of publishing her findings in the future.
