Attributing her vast successes in nursing to her persistence, Ms. Joya has spent 35 years administering patient care in the labor and delivery ward of the LAC + USC Medical Center. By getting involved in something new everyday, Ms. Joya has been able to refine an expertise in critical care nursing.

Ms. Joya holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing and a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from California State University, Los Angeles. An affiliate of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, she was recognized by the organization with an award for 20 years of service as a health care provider. When advising those emerging in her field, Ms. Joya implores her successors to listen. She says, “Always listen to the people whose lives you touch because they make you successful.”

With a commitment to fully educate her patients, Ms. Joya travels to health fairs and other clinics to engage in question-and-answer sessions and promote her maternity tour. For LAC + USC Medical Center specifically, she has implemented an English tour for medical education. Ms. Joya’s determination has led to an international marketing explosion, where she has led the tour to gain recognition around the globe. Her newfound marketing role has yielded a higher attendance to the tour and fulfilled the whole mission of the operation: to keep patients healthy.
