BACKUS, MN, October 10, 2011, Karen Marie Eveland, Retired Family Nurse Practitioner for the College of St. Scholastica, has been recognized by Elite American Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care and education.
Prior to her retirement, Ms. Eveland handled obstetrics and gynecology, clinical work and ambulatory care, and taught public health at the college. She was also responsible for conducting workshops for sixth graders with sexuality issues, adults with depression and reproduction issues, and seniors with questions related to their health care. She taught babysitting training courses and childcare basics in Cass County, Minnesota, in order to promote the proper child care techniques among child care workers.
With nearly half a century of professional experience under her belt, Ms. Eveland has demonstrated a true gift for working in the health care services field throughout her career. She feels that she has been able to achieve success as a health care professional who has branched out into the education industry due to her ability to develop lasting client relationships. Over the years, she has also been able to build on an ever-expansive skill set, developing expertise in such diverse areas as diabetes, women’s health and pediatrics.
Ms. Eveland has amassed a wealth of experience through a combination of sheer passion for her work and a love of learning. She was inspired to follow a career path toward success by a doctor who suggested that she enroll in a program that would allow her to become skilled in the area of nursing. completed coursework in nursing at the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing, and went on to receive a master’s degree in family practice from The College of St. Scholastica, the institute of higher education that she also served diligently as a family nurse practitioner. She has been able to remain abreast of trends and developments in the nursing arena as a member of the Minnesota Nurses Association and an active member of her community. She supports a number of worthy causes, which include her church, where she teaches Sunday school and serves as a choir director.
Ever passionate about her line of work, Ms. Eveland looks forward to a bright future as a nurse practitioner who paves the way for new and ground-breaking services in her community. She hopes to establish a nurse practitioner role in home care in the near future. When she is not hard at work and making plans to improve on the home care sector, Ms. Eveland enjoys scrapbooking.
