An expert in phlebotomy, Sandra Martinez has over 37 years of professional experience with the New York Blood Center. As apheresis manager, she is responsible for overseeing blood bank operations. In the course of her three-decade career, Ms. Martinez published three abstracts and received recognition from the BABB and various local medical organizations. She considers having her education funded by the New York Blood Center to be the highest honor she has received for her work. She attributes her success to her earnest desire to be of service to people. Also her determination and motivation to succeed drove her to complete school and become a nurse, despite being told she was not smart enough to become a nurse. She was able to identify her strengths and build on them with a quality education. As an experienced member of her team, Ms. Martinez strives to help her staff grow and encourages them to continue their education to better themselves and their career.

Ms. Martinez received a Master of Science in nursing informatics and nursing administration from Molloy College. She is a member of the American Association of Blood Banks, Sigma Theta Tau International, and Psi Chi. She was named Professional of the Year in Phlebotomy Operations by Cambridge Who’s Who® in 2008 and was honored with an Outstanding Community Service Award from the Lyons Club.
